You cover up the boredom with your classy phrases and humor :). I used to nag about all the term papers and initial projects, but its all done. But the term paper is a little too much. This was very helpful since the answers covered the whole topics in a review fashion so that anyone would get better prepared for the quizzes. Bad_PointsThe ugly part would be that the course's web page was to big. It has too many links that makes anyone get lost. Also, not having laboratory sessions for oracle practice made the course a little bit more difficult. I really like the fact that the students are provided with the necessary means to give out their opinon about the class. Secondly, the course intends to strike a balance between theory and practice. I really appreciate the fact that I had the chance to implement what I have learned in this course. Bad_PointsFirstly, the course schedule is loaded. Secondly, research paper component of the course is very interesting and beneficial for us. However, I have been observing that majority of the students are writing essays instead of research papers. In my opinion, research paper requires empirical evidence that must be collected by the researcher. However to due to lack of access to proper information sources(collecting your evidence through surveys, etc), time constraints,intense course schedule (in addition to other courses, work and family responsibilities), the research paper process did not turn out to be as productive as I have expected. In the end, this is our responsibility and if we really want to acquire knowledge, we should go through this process. However, I deem it necessary to share my personal experience with you in order to shed a light on student experience. It would have been beneficial, if we had the chance to work on Oracle SQL more in lab environment. WebisteComments1.SQL course should be conducted in lab environment.More hands on experience. 2. More focus the group project component in the course. It has been a nice experience. 3. Decrease # of the small assignments from the course schedule and put more emphasis on the applied projects and research paper.

Bad_PointsI am not sure if I am crazy about the research paper. It is a good idea. I am just wondering if there is enough time spend on it and work with other areas of the class; projects and thesis classes take about two semesters. WebisteCommentsIt is hard to find something to improve when the class is well presented and formatted. But, if I want to be picky, I would say to make the lectures longer, maybe telling more or slowing down? This may allow for more participation was seems to be lacking in the class. The advantage of a short lecture is that we get to leave early. So, there are advantages and disadvantages with this suggestion. At any case, there is a lot of information in the class Web site.

I would have like more deatils about them but I understand the limits imposed by the time frame. I really didn't realize how valuable a database could be before this class. I also like the way you have the necessary information available on the web site. Bad_PointsIt was a little too general. I found the paper to be interesting, but it also had a few problems with it. I don't understand how we could do a research paper without any real research and in such a short time. I am also curious how we are supposed to write a paper trying to be knowledgeable on a subject when we are just discovering what it is and how it works. I understand why the research paper and I did learn from it, but a slightly different approach to might be mar effective for everyone. The group project was also an excellent way to see how this curriculum relates to the real world through interaction and development. The information on databases that you provided through your lectures was concise and to the point. I liked the way you did not just reproduce a textbook. Bad_PointsI realize that the research paper gives us an opportunity to find information on a topic of interest and add to our overall knowledge, but I felt that it took time away from studying the subject material and getting a better understanding of the concepts. I think that it should either be a research paper OR a group project. The students shouldn't have to do both! The main page has too many out-links. I was hard-pressed to find the difference between additional information and additional coverage. I think that the exams were kind of tricky at times because there was a lot of information that was learned from the tutorials, study questions, and quizzes. But there were few questions on the exam. It allows me, who is not familiar with the concepts, to understand them and with the help of the website I can also learn on my own. I find myself struggling to complete the assignments and the assignments for my other classes as well as my outside college work. The work should represent something that we will encounter in the work force and also take into consideration that we are graduates and have other work. Pseudonym: ninersfan Good_PointsI acctually learned something useful, now I got an idea of how to draw an ERD and the bascis of SQL Bad_PointsThe exam that you made us repeat it wasn't fair, I did study for that one (2nd exam)and I believe I got a better grade than the second time we took it. Also, on the first one I did really bad and a lot of people were cheating as well and that affected the curve. I didn't complain because I never tought you were going to make us repeat the second one again, if anything I would have complain for the first one and redo that one as well. One more thing was the presentation, our team was prepared and ready to present and we didn't have a chance (we just lost time preparing) at least you could give extra credit for it (just kidding).
